The MuSe in Trento
The MuSe in Trento is the ultra-modern natural science museum designed by Renzo Piano that was recently inaugurated in the Albere area of the city. The museum houses traces of the first living beings to populate the earth like dinosaurs, mammals and primates. There are also various living species, large aquariums with the strangest fish and greenhouses with tropical plants.
The MuSe in Trento is also the museum of Prehistory and alpine biodiversity with several installations dedicated to the evolution of Alpine mountain areas, nature and the inhabitants of these places.
Everything is combined with interactive and digital workshops where visitors can become the protagonists of scientific discoveries and test the principles of physics and chemistry at first hand.
The Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento
The Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento is one of the most important buildings in the region and one of the most impressive castles in the Alps. It dates back to the 13th century and was the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Trento. In the following centuries it underwent extensive expansion and entire parts of the building were added.
After the end of the Episcopal Principality of Trento the Castello del Buonconsiglio was used as a barracks as the headquarters of the Fortress of Trento. After annexation to Italy the castle remained the property of the State until 1974 when it passed to the Autonomous Province of Trento.
Today it is the seat of the provincial museum of the Castello del Buonconsiglio and hosts high level temporary cultural exhibitions and houses a permanent collection of art work. You shouldn’t miss the Torre Aquila, with its famous gothic fresco Cycle of the Months. Then there are the works of art in the Magno Palazzo that were painted by important artists from the Italian renaissance: Dosso Dossi, Girolamo Romanino and Marcello Fogolino, to name but a few.
